Madhavpur – where scenic beauty meets devotion

Are you a person who loves beaches, but feels annoyed seeing the crowd on some popular beaches of the country? Are you looking for some solitude to boost your spiritual energy? If yes, then Madhavpur (Ghed) is the place to end your quest.

Location

Madhavpur is located in the southern part of Gujarat, also known as the Saurashtra region and is a part of Porbandar district. Mangrol is the nearest city to Madhavpur Ghed.

Cultural and Religious Importance

This village draws its name from Lord Krishna who is also named as Madhavrai. According to the folklore, Madavpur is the wedding place of Lord Kirshna and Rukmani. Lord Krishna had eloped Rukmani and married her after reaching here. Now, there stands a Madhavraiji Temple and Rukmani No Choro. The Choro is a place where Mer Community organises an annual cultural fair for five days, commencing from the Ram Navmi day. You can feel vibrancy of the place when the Krishna’s idol is placed on the chariot and it passes through small streets of the village.

Madhapur also has one of the seats (bethak) of founder of Pushti-margiya Vaishav Hindu sect.  Southern side of the village also has a beautiful Osho Ashram, a really peaceful place to meditate.
