Thol Lake is an artificial lake near Thol village in kadi in mehsana district in the Indian state of gujarat. It was constructed as an irrigation tank in 1912. It is a fresh water lake surrounded by marshes. It was declared the Thol Bird Sanctuary in 1988; it is a habitat to 150 species of birds, about 60% are waterbird.
Many migratory birds nest and breed in the lake and its periphery. The two most prominent species of birds recorded in the sanctuary are flamingoes and sarus crane. Bird Sanctuary is the ideal place to visit if you want to grab some blissful time with nature as your company. Thol Lake covers an area of 7 sq km. More than 100 species of birds including migratory feathery guests can be spotted in this lake;
hence one can call this sanctuary a heaven for bird watchers. Cranes, flamingoes, geese, ducks, spoonbills, pelicans, whistling teals, egrets, and herons are some of the commonly spotted birds here. The best time to visit Thol Lake Bird Sanctuary is between November and February.
