WSON Team

Built in 17th century, Janjira Jal-Durg meaning the sea fort was constructed by an Abssynian minister, Malik Ambar. Ambar was then in the service of Sultan of Ahmednagar. What makes this fort different from the rest is that it’s not located on land; it’s like an island in the middle of the sea. Its located at an island just near to Murund village. Also known as Murud- Janjira, it is situated at a distance of 21 kilometres from Kashid beach and it takes about 25 minutes to reach this destination.

WSON Team

The fort is built on an oval rock off Arabian Sea coast and the considered as one of the strongest marine forts of the country. The most exciting part of this destination is reaching there through sailboats from Rajapuri. It was made very thoughtfully and an amazing example of ancient Mughal architecture.  Also, as you near the fort, you would keep on wondering about the entrance of the fort, because can be seen only when one is about 40 feet (12 m) away from it. It has a small postern gate towards the open sea for escape.

The Glinted Eye

The black kite is a common bird of prey found in urban areas. They spent most of their time gliding with the help of thermals in search of food. They commonly found on street lights and on the tip of huge and dead trees.

They used to build their nests on the top branches. This place was in between my regular route, where I found this dead tree as an interesting frame. This place is always full of black kites so I found one always on the branches of this tree.

I started bringing my camera to capture one whenever I was about to pass from this place. This black kite was sitting on the edge of the branch so I wished to capture its take off but after more than 45 minutes of waiting that kite didn’t fly.I captured it on its place and it was a sunset time so the direct sunlight created the magnificent glint.
